Union wins APPR reprieve

Gov. Kathy Hochul Friday signed a bill suspending, for an additional year, the Annual Professional Performance Review process. Advanced through grassroots advocacy from NYSUT members and lobbying by union legislative staff, the bill recently passed both the state Senate and the Assembly.

“As we come to the end of another school year that has been anything but normal, we welcome the governor’s decision to suspend the APPR process for another year,” said NYSUT President Andy Pallotta. “We will continue working with the legislature and the governor to address the APPR

On April 30th, NYSUT's Suffolk and Nassau Regions will be jointly staging a massive CORRECT THE TESTS!! event to pressure the NYS Board of Regents and Education Commissioner to fix New York's badly flawed testing system which remains an obstacle to effective teaching and learning.

The event will be held at Centereach High School in the Middle Country School District. Details on the attached flyer.

Congratulations to STA member and Sayville resident, Dan Cameron, and his wife Shannon who have been named "The Suffolk County News' 2015 Inspiration" winners. On Monday, January 4th, at 7 p.m. the Sayville Council of PTAs and STA will be co-hosting an educational forum at the Middle School. The subject of the forum will be "Educational Crossroads".
